April 23, 2026 – The Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship (CUMRC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Colin Evans as Chair of the Canadian University Men’s Rugby Coaches Association.
Colin enters the role with over two decades of experience in coaching, athlete development, and program leadership across Canada and the UK. He is currently in his second season as Assistant Coach with the Carleton University Ravens men’s rugby program and serves as Director of Rugby at Barrhaven Scottish RFC, where he oversees programming for more than 350 athletes and leads coach development initiatives across the club.
A former semi-professional player, Colin transitioned into coaching with a focus on long-term athlete development and high-performance environments. His experience spans junior, academy, provincial, and university programs, with a proven track record in building structured pathways and supporting both player and coach progression. In addition to his on-field work, Colin brings a unique perspective shaped by leadership roles in military and corporate settings, complemented by certifications in high-performance and mental performance coaching.
“I am extremely excited to be leaning on my rugby playing and rugby coaching experiences to be able to add value to the CUMRC,” said Evans. “I firmly believe that all coaches, and the environments they coach in, are constantly evolving, and we all need to continue to learn and grow. Now that I am part of a group of excellent coaches, I hope we can grow together.”
“The appointment of Colin reflects our continued focus on strengthening the coaching community within men’s university rugby,” said Maria Samson, Chair of the CUMRC. “His experience across multiple environments, combined with his commitment to coach development and high-performance standards, will be a strong asset as we continue to grow and evolve the Championship.”
The Coaches Association plays a critical role in supporting collaboration across programs, providing a formal mechanism for coach engagement, and contributing to key initiatives including playing regulations, awards processes, and national alignment.
CUMRC looks forward to working with Colin and the broader coaching community to continue elevating men’s university rugby across Canada.
