NEW POSTING! Jamie MacKenzie takes on the role as Chair of the Coaches Association.

Jamie Mackenzie enters his third season as the Assistant Coach for the Men’s Rugby program at Wilfred Laurier University in 2024-2025. Having played at an elite level for over a decade, Mackenzie brings with him a vast amount of experience. Mackenzie helped the Goldenhawks reach their first ever National Championships in the 21-22 campaign with a school best 2nd place OUA finish.

As a player, Mackenzie was a member of three World Cup campaigns for Canada, played professionally in the UK as well as the MLR, and has amassed over 20+ caps for the Men’s Canadian XV

After retiring, Mackenzie immediately focused on the next stage of his career – coaching. A natural transition for him, he enjoys working with eager athletes and focuses on skill acquisition and attacking principles.

“I am extremely excited to lean on my playing experiences as well as recent professional development courses (including a multi-week professional development stint with the Crusaders) in order to grow as an individual and as coach. Coaching is a constant educational journey, and I am very excited to learn and develop in my new role as Chair of the Coaches Association.”

Welcome to our newest member to the CUMRC board, Cory Hector!

The 2024-25 season marks Cory Hector's 9th year in charge of the Gryphons men's rugby program after being named head coach in May of 2016. Cory has led the Gryphons to four OUA titles as head coach, with the U of G men's rugby team hoisting the Turner Trophy in 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2016. Prior to serving as head coach, Cory spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Gryphons men's rugby team (2009-2015). During his first season in charge in 2016, Cory was named OUA Coach of the Year.

Outside of his coaching role with the Gryphons, Cory has coached at the professional level with the Toronto Arrows since its inaugural season in 2019 holding roles which include Sr team attack and backs coach as well Director of the Arrows Academy. Cory has also spent time coaching in the Canadian national pathway returning in 2024 for his third stint with the U20 program as Attack and backs coach, while also holding roles as the U18 Canada Head coach in 2022 and coached at 3 FISU games for Canada in 2012, 2013 and 2016.

Welcoming our newest board member to the CUMRC, Scott Manning!

From representing Canada on the U17 and U19 national teams to varsity rugby at the University of Victoria, rugby has been woven into Scott Manning's life for over two decades. But his passion doesn't just lie in playing – for the past 10 years, he's been inspiring the next generation as a coach.

Scott brings a wealth of experience to the field, having coached everything from U16 to varsity men to senior club. As the current head coach of the University of Victoria men's program, he guides the student-athletes who will shape the future of Canadian rugby. His previous tenure as Head Coach of the Castaway Wanderers premier men and five years assisting with Canada's U18 program further demonstrate his commitment to player development at all levels.

Scott currently teaches Teaching & Coaching Effectiveness and Administration of PE, Rec & Sport at the University of Victoria in the Coaching Master's program and holds a World Rugby Level 2 certification. His coaching philosophy champions joy, care, integrity, and growth, ensuring players discover their full potential within and beyond the game.

"My goal is to help athletes and coaches bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be," Scott says, "and I want to make it really enjoyable along the way."

Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Scott found his second home in BC when he moved to attend UVic and pursue rugby. Though injuries cut his playing career short, his competitive spirit and dedication to the sport led him to where he is today – a leading figure in Canadian rugby, empowering the next generation of champions.
